The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which straddles the Tennessee-North Carolina state-line in the U.S.A., is a biologically diverse region which . Freshwater sponges filter organic particles and bacterioplankton from water for food and also consume some products produced by their symbiotic algae. They can reproduce sexually, or asexually when small pieces are broken off and grow into new sponges or when the sponge forms gemmules—tiny reproductive spheres that can overwinter and later.
Description. Micromeria brownei. Native to the Southeast United States and South America, the Creeping Mint Charlie or Micromeria Bunched Aquarium Plant, is a plant that requires medium care and is intended for a aquarist with a bit of experience. Within the G. herculeana species complex (Kociolek and Stoermer, a), several large taxa may be abundant in freshwater diatom communities in western North America, the Laurentian Great Lakes, and the southeast United States.
The communities of algae in freshwater wetlands are nearly as diverse as those found in lakes. As in other systems, nutrient conditions, climate, and geology influence species composition, but in wetlands, water level, macrophyte plant composition, and degree of mixing with other water bodies are also important (Goldsborough and Robinson, ).
